Selma and the Alabama Black Belt were the battlegrounds for the Voting Rights Movement that resulted in the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Alabamians stood up and peacefully fought for the right to vote. March 5-7, 2021, the largest Jubilee of its kind goes virtual in an effort to fight against COVID-19!
We call on Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL) to honor his oath of office and vote to convict Donald J. Trump for Inciting Insurrection against the United States. Mr. Trump's words caused violent mobs to desecrate our nation's Capitol, terrorize Congressional leaders and an entire city for hours-even causing multiple deaths.
Several social media platforms have posted statements purporting that the NAACP has received information about white nationalists groups initiations. The NAACP has not released any such statement. While we take all matters of racial discrimination and racial hatred seriously, these statements are not from the NAACP.
Those committed to dismantling racism, pushing for change, and advocating for justice are looking for ways to demonstrate their commitment to a more equal society. This is the year for deeper, more concrete actions.
We must put people first to get the AIDS response back on track. We must end the social injustices that put people at risk of contracting HIV and that includes a fight for the right to healthcare.
There is no excuse for government to not invest fully for universal access to health. Barriers such as up-front user fees that lock people out of health must come down.
Men and women must have their human rights fully respected, and the criminalization and marginalization of gay men, transgender people, sex workers and people who use drugs must stop.
As we approach the end of 2020, the world is in a dangerous place and the months ahead will not be easy. Only global solidarity and shared responsibility will help us end the AIDS epidemic and guarantee the right to health for all.
