72ND ANNUAL CONVENTION FREEDOM AWARDS

2024 Alabama State Conference (ASC) of the NAACP Convention Awards

 Please submit a 500-word or less narrative that outlines the of why the individual, organization, or committee should receive the award you are submitting them for. You may also submit attachments such as newspaper and magazine articles as supporting documents. These articles and supporting documents will NOT count as your narrative. Please include a photo of the person.


The following are the awards that are available for the nominees:

LEGISLATOR OF THE YEAR

ATTORNEY OF THE YEAR
MINORITY OWNED BUSINESS OF THE YEAR

BRANCH OF THE YEAR

BRANCH PRESIDENT OF THE YEAR

STATE CONFERENCE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBER OF THE YEAR

STATE CONFERENCE STANDING COMMITTEE OF THE YEAR

LEGACY AWARD

BRAVERY MEDAL

The award submission deadline is August 4, 2024. Contact the Alabama NAACP at info@alnaacp.org or 256-444-1300 with any questions.

You will only be contacted if the Award Committee have questions or need more information. AWARDEES will ONLY be notified by the Alabama State Conference (ASC). Notifications will go out on Friday, September 9, 2024, by email, phone, and USPS.  

LEGISLATOR OF THE YEAR

The award is given to the legislator who has supported the NAACP in its efforts to further the cause of civil rights for the citizens of Alabama.

COMMUNITY PARTNER OF THE YEAR: University of Montevallo

This awards is given to the community organization who has fulfilled a commitment to partner with the NAACP and who has provided the most support to the NAACP in terms of the partnership with the organization.  The partner does not have to be related to just financial support.

ATTORNEY OF THE YEAR

This award is given to the attorney who has volunteered their efforts and time to assisting the NAACP in the accomplishing the NAACP mission on the state level.  The attorney may have also provided support in furthering the cause of civil rights throughout the state of Alabama.

MINORITY OWNED BUSINESS OF THE YEAR

This award is given to a minority owned business that has made a significant impact in their community.  This support is not limited to financial support.

BRANCH OF THE YEAR

This award is given to a Branch in the state of Alabama who has been a model branch by submitting reports o time, attending Quarterly Meetings, State and the Regional Conference and the NAACP National Convention.  Must have an active Youth Council  and the Youth Council must be in good standing with the State NAACP and the National NAACP.  Youth Council must also have shown an increase in membership or have had membership drives to increase membership.

BRANCH PRESIDENT OF THE YEAR

This award is given to a Branch President in the state of Alabama who has demonstrated strong leadership in furthering the Civil Rights.  Must have attended weekly ASC and local meetings, conventions, mandatory training and in good standard.

STATE CONFERENCE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBER OF THE YEAR:

This award is given to an Executive Committee Member who has accomplished the most in leading their committee to accomplishing their committee's mission in the NAACP.  This member must have been instrumental in ensuring that reports were/are provided at all Quarterly Meetings and must have attended all mandatory trainings.  

STATE CONFERENCE STANDING COMMITTEE OF THE YEAR

This award is given to the state standing committee who has provided monthly and quarterly reports.  This committee must have attended all or the majority of Quarterly Meetings and demonstrates a sense of unity with the members of the community, secretary, and the president.  

LEGACY OF THE YEAR

This award is given to a person who is an active member of the NAACP and not just in attendance, but participate in NAACP events (75%).  Must be nominated by a branch, unit, or member of the NAACP .  Must have attended all or majority of Quarterly Meetings and demonstrates a sense of unity with the members of the community, secretary, and the president.

ASC Bravery Medal

This award is given to a person (s) who may or may not be an active member of the NAACP, but exemplifies extraordinary bravery, and has performed with exceptional judgement and/or utilization of personal skills or tactics to defuse dangerous situations and rescue any person from harm or danger, courageous, is not cowardly or timid. This person (s) has impacted the future state of Alabama, as well as the nation by their actions. 

PRESIDENT'S AWARD

This award is selected by the Alabama State Conference President ONLY.
